Brand Viagra

Brand Viagra (sildenafil) is an oral medication that belongs to the class of PDE-5 inhibitors. The drug is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Indications for use

Viagra fights against genital disorders. The main indications for use include:

  • lack of erection;
  • short-term erection;
  • defective sexual intercourse;
  • the impossibility of completing intercourse.

Mechanism of action

Sildenafil is a type 5 phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitor in the cavernous membrane of the body. Thanks to this inhibition, the substance helps protect cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) from metabolism. As the level of nitric oxide (NO) in the cavernous body increases, sildenafil binds to cGMP receptors, resulting in an increase in cGMP flow. The whole process relaxes the smooth muscles of the penis. When the arteries relax, they can improve blood flow in the spongy tissues of the penis, which causes a hard and long-lasting erection.

Instructions for use

  • The drug is taken orally about 60 minutes before sexual intercourse and washed down with water.
  • Alcohol is permissible only in minimal volumes (a glass of wine).
  • Fatty food can slow down the effect of the drug, so you’d better take a pill on an empty stomach;
  • The maximum dose of Viagra is 100 mg per day.

Overdose

Experiments show that exceeding the maximum recommended dose of sildenafil, the risk of side effects increases. In this situation, symptomatic therapy should be used as a treatment. In this case, hemodialysis has no effect, because when sildenafil enters the bloodstream, it actively binds to its proteins.

Side effects

Viagra is usually well tolerated. In some cases, it causes the following side effects:

  • Central nervous system: skeletal muscle spasm and increased tone, insomnia, dizziness;
  • Cardiovascular system: headache, fever in the face;
  • Musculoskeletal system (pain in the muscles and joints);
  • Gastrointestinal tract (dyspepsia, diarrhea, nausea);
  • Skin (rash, itching);
  • Organs of perception of the surrounding world (violation of the clarity of vision, a change in color perception, nasal congestion);
  • Reproductive function: priapism.

Contraindications

The list of contraindications for taking Viagra in men includes the following situations and conditions:

  • Excessive sensitivity to sildenafil or other auxiliary components of the drug;
  • The use of therapeutic agents that contain nitrogen oxides, nitrites and nitrates. It is very undesirable to take Viagra in such cases since sildenafil supports their hypotensive effect;
  • The use of other PDE-5 blockers, or sexual stimulants;
  • Disorders associated with lactose intolerance (its deficiency, as well as malabsorption);
  • Severe forms of liver failure (starting from class C);
  • Treatment with ritonavir;
  • Complex forms of cardiovascular diseases, including: recent heart attack or stroke, heart failure, angina pectoris, hypotension, hypertension, arrhythmia, which threatens a man’s life;
  • Vision problems (partial loss of vision, optic neuropathy);
  • Hereditary retinitis pigmentosa.

There are also cases when tablets containing sildenafil must be used with caution:

  • Anatomical deformation of the penis (Peyronie’s disease, angulation and cavernous fibrosis);
  • Diseases that can contribute to the progression of priapism (these include myeloma, anemia and leukemia);
  • Diseases in which bleeding is possible;
  • Ulcers of the stomach and duodenum in acute form;
  • Liver dysfunctions;
  • Severe renal failure;
  • The use of α-adrenoreceptor blockers.

If you suffer from any of the listed diseases or are taking te mentioned medications, be sure to consult your doctor before using Brand Viagra.

Interaction with other drugs

The simultaneous use of cimetidine, erythromycin and ketoconazole can cause a decrease in clearance, as well as an increase in the area under the concentration curve. The simultaneous joint administration of hypoglycemic drugs, beta-blockers and BMCC is also considered unsafe. Another very dangerous combination is the combined use of sildenafil with nitrogen donors and other nitrates, due to a possible sharp decrease in blood pressure.

Compatibility with alcohol

It is not recommended to combine Viagra and alcohol. Patients who take alcohol together with sildenafil drugs have a significantly increased risk of side effects in the form of a headache. Alcohol also affects the speed and strength of sildenafil’s action, significantly delaying the onset of the effect. Studies of sildenafil at a dose of 50 mg did not confirm that the latter increases the hypertensive or hypotensive effect of alcohol in male volunteers and all indicators were within the arithmetic error.
