Alan Lewis

Alan J. Lewis, Ph.D., joined the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) as President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2009. Prior to joining JDRF, Dr. Lewis served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Novocell, Inc., a stem cell engineering company dedicated to treating diabetes and other chronic diseases. Previously, Dr. Lewis served as CEO and Director of Signal Pharmaceuticals before its acquisition in 2000 by Celgene, a biopharmaceutical company focusing on small molecule drugs for cancer and immunological diseases. He then served as President of the Signal Research Division at Celgene. Dr. Lewis previously held the position of Vice President of Research at Wyeth-Ayerst, where he spent 15 years leading research efforts in diabetes, CNS, cardiovascular, inflammatory, allergy, and bone metabolism diseases. Dr. Lewis received a B.Sc. in Physiology and Biochemistry from Southampton University, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Wales.

Standish M. Fleming

Managing Member, Forward Ventures

Standish M. Fleming was a co-founder of Forward Ventures, which today manages over $340 million in funds. As President and CEO of Forward Ventures Services Corporation, Fleming directs the firm's operations and guides investment strategies. He also currently serves as a Director of Arizeke Pharmaceuticals, EndiCOR, MitoKor, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Tandem Medical and Triangle Pharmaceuticals. Before establishing Forward Ventures II, he served as start-up Chairman, President, and CEO of GeneSys Therapeutics, Forward's first portfolio company. Fleming has also served as President and/or Founding Board Member of ten companies, including Actigen (now Corixa), CombiChem, GenQuest, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Triangle Pharmaceuticals, AITRIA, Gryphon Sciences, Ciphergen Biosystems, First Dental Health and Arizeke Pharmaceuticals. Fleming earned his M.B.A. from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and his B.A. from Amherst College.

Allan Marchington

Partner, Apposite Capital LLP

Allan Marchington combines entrepreneurship and executive experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector. A partner at Apposite since its inception, he is responsible for Apposite's Life Sciences investments. Previously Marchington was at Abingworth Management, where he was responsible for strategic changes at several of their portfolio companies. Marchington joined Abingworth in 2003, from Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge Mass., where as a member of the senior management team he was responsible for Millennium's European activities and all of the company's technology investments. Prior to Millennium, he was principal founder and CEO of Cambridge Combinatorial, a combinatorial chemistry company that was acquired by Millennium for a substantial multiple of invested capital. Before setting up Cambridge Combinatorial, Marchington worked for seven years in a range of therapeutic areas at Pfizer, Sandwich. He has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Liverpool.

Steven Elms

Managing Director, Perseus-Soros Biopharmaceutical Fund

Steven A. Elms combines financial industry expertise gained in the venture capital, investment banking and securities trading arenas. Prior to Perseus-Soros, he served as a Principal in the Life Sciences Investment Banking group of Hambrecht & Quist, a leading underwriter and strategic advisor of the biotechnology industry, where he was involved in over 60 financing and M&A transactions, helping clients raise in excess of $3.3 billion of capital. Prior to H&Q, Elms traded mortgage-backed securities for two years at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. In addition to serving as a Director of Ambit, Elms represents Perseus-Soros on the boards of Adams Laboratories and Novazyme Pharmaceuticals. He holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a B.A. in human biology from Stanford University.

Alexander Zukiwski

Executive Vice President, Clinical Research and Chief Medical Officer, MedImmune

Dr. Zukiwski brings to Ambit over 20+ years of oncology clinical research and drug development experience. He has worked on the clinical development and approval of a number of drugs including docetaxel, epoetin alfa, doxorubicin HC1 liposome injection, bortezomib, trabectedin and numerous other investigational agents. He is responsible for oversight of the clinical development strategy, clinical trial execution and pharmacovigilance for MedImmune's drug candidates and marketed products. Prior to joining MedImmune he held several roles of increasing responsibility in support of Johnson & Johnson's (J&J) medical affairs and clinical development functions. Before joining J7J, Dr. Zukiwski served in clinical oncology positions at Hoffmann-LaRoche, GlaxoWellcome and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Dr. Zukiwski holds degrees in pharmacy and medicine from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. He conducted his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at St. Thomas Hospital Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, and Medical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Saiid Zarrabian

Saiid Zarrabian brings to Ambit executive and operational experience gained in the biotech industry, and technology companies providing tools and services to pharma, chemicals, and Cad/Cam industries. He has served as President and COO of Senomyx, a biotechnology firm involved with discovery of novel flavor ingredients. He previously served as COO of Pharmacopeia, a publicly held biotechnology firm involved with internal drug discovery and combinatorial chemistry and high throughput screening products and services, and as President and COO of Molecular Simulations, an industry leading innovator of computational modeling and bioinformatics tools for pharma/biotech and chemicals industries. He has been involved in private and public financings, and numerous successful mergers and acquisitions.

Joe Regan

Vice President of Investments at GrowthWorks Capital

Joe is an active Life Science investor and brings almost two decades of venture capital and pharmaceutical industry experience. He has participated in both company creation and the strategic growth of portfolio companies. He has been an influential contributor to many Alliances, M&A transactions and divestments. Having invested over $100MM of capital, those investees have subsequently raised approximately $700MM in aggregate. He has served a wide range of investee roles including gestational CEO. Additionally he serves as President of an Early Stage Seed Fund. Currently Joe serves on the Board of Directors of Cytochroma Inc., Targeted Growth Inc., Viron Therapeutics Inc., Receptor Therapeutics Inc., Resonant Medical Inc. and Praxim Inc. Joe has an Honours BSc (with distinction) from the University of Guelph and an MBA (Dean's List) from McMaster University.
